Both Super Bowl XXXIV (49) and Super Bowl L (50) aired commercials by the candy company, Mars, and they have wasted no time in beginning to work on content for Super Bowl LI (51). While the big game may be over eight months away, it is never too early to begin marketing, according to Mars.
Mars is teaming up, yet again, with another well-known entity, Wrigley, in order to collaborate on a “Snickers vs. Skittles” battle. Being deemed “The Candy Bowl”, the joint-related sales program will push viewers to choose either Team Skittles or Team Snickers in an effort to increase consumer engagement. Neither Mars nor Wrigley have confirmed whether they will promote commercials solely for their products alone, but the brand vs. brand approach has proven to be effective coming off the heels of Mars’ “Left Twix vs. Right Twix” advertisements.
During the promotion of “The Candy Bowl”, which is set to run from December 12 to February 27, 2017, people who text in pictures of Skittles or of Snickers are entering themselves into a major contest. Instant prizes will be given out to several with two grand prizes of season tickets to the winner’s hometown team. In-store marketing will also be seen for both Snickers and Skittles leading up to Super Bowl LI, with promotional displays featuring NFL themed products.
