Jon Jones Out Of UFC 200, Lesnar- Hunt to Headline
After being flagged for a potential anti-doping violation, Jon Jones has been dropped in his light heavyweight bout at UFC200 set to take place this Saturday against Daniel Cormier. Although not mentioned specifically, Jones tested positive for a banned substance following an out-of-competition sample taken back in middle of June. The result comes at the most inopportune time for Dana White and the (Utimate Fighting Championship) UFC, as the Jones-Cormier headliner was set to be their biggest PPV bout to date, topping UFC100.
“I must have jinxed myself,” White claimed in an impromptu news conference following the devastating news. “I kept going, everything is going so smooth, everything is going so smooth, and nobody had been hurt and everybody was healthy. So this was a pretty brutal phone call.”
Jones will have an opportunity to appeal the findings and test a B sample taken if he so chooses, but will be pulled from the card Saturday night regardless. After being convicted of a hit and run and testing positive for cocaine use in 2015, Jones has self-destructed yet again, days before the biggest fight of his life.
Cormier stated that he would be willing to fight another fitting opponent Saturday night, but the possibility of a cage appearance seems unlikely on such short notice. Ex-UFC and World Wrestling Federation (WWF) star Brock Lesnar, who is fresh out of retirement, will now face Mark Hunt in a heavyweight fight as the main event Saturday night. Activ8 will continue to report as the Jones story unfolds and a possible two-year suspension looms over his head.
