Verizon Wireless Workers’ Strike

Verizon Wireless Workers’ Strike

Heather Jacques / Contributor

Verizon Wireless is one of the top cellphone companies in the United Sates and have provided service to over 140 million subscribers. Their widely used 4G LTE (4th generation Long Term Evolution) network, has proven to be fast and reliable for their consumers. With the adopted slogan of “better matters”, this week, the company has been majorly tested on that as their employees raged out against the company.

The Verizon worker strike has been making headlines especially with Bernie Sanders, presidential nominee, joining in. Sanders, leading in the New York polls, has been attacking American CEOs accusing them of “corporate greed” and for their plans of “outsourcing decent paying jobs”. He has even encouraged the Verizon strikers telling them, “You have chosen to stand up for dignity, for justice and to take on an enormously powerful special interest”. The strike began on Wednesday, April 13th, when the unions and communications company could not reach an agreement. This is not the first time that, Verizon had workers go on strike either as this is a reoccurrence from 2011.

Activ8 Media touches on this subject’s importance, pointing out whether a small, locally owned business or involved in a big time corporation, treating employees and customers well is crucial to success. If employees are not given respect, then something like this strike can happen. Businesses lose productivity, efficiency, and profit as employees lose motivation, will-power, and dedication to their company of hire.

In episode 14 of Activ8 Daily, John Fosco hits on how to service customers properly. Sick of walking into stores or working with service companies that fail to provide high quality service, Fosco stresses on how little things can go so far in the service industry such as greeting customers with a smile and asking “how are you doing today?” Great customer service leads to great, returning customers who spend money on the product, business, or service that treats them well. As headlines increase with this Verizon Wireless employee strike, know that treating your employees with the same amount of respect is just as important for any efficient business.
