“The Kid” Enters H.O.F.
Sunday evening at the Major League Baseball (MLB) Hall of Fame (HOF) ceremony was a chance for two players to see their lifetime dreams become a reality. Mike Piazza, a 16 year veteran catcher who played for several different organizations, was inducted into the HOF alongside another very recognizable name: Ken Griffey Jr.
“The Kid” who was Ken Griffey Jr. has been an iconic figure for the sport of baseball and the MLB in general. Playing his career during the “Steroid Era”, Griffey was one of the few who stuck to his morals and has been lifetime drug-free. A 13 time All-Star, 10 time Gold Glove Award winner and 7 time Silver Slugger Award holder, Griffey played a marathon of a career spanning 22 seasons with the Mariners, Reds and White Sox.
Most noticeably, “The Kid” is known for his Swingman logo. Modeled as a silhouette of Griffey himself, the Swingman logo is one of the most recognizable brands in the sports world today. His signature swing made it ideal for him to be able to brand himself. Endorsed as a part of Nike, the Swingman brand has made everything from cleats, batting gloves, fielding gloves and nearly every other piece of baseball equipment imaginable. This is not to mention the numerous apparel lines and shoes Griffey has branded with his likeness.
