Rams Ramming into the 2016 Season

Sam Lewey / Contributor

“With the first pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams select…” Yes, a lot has changed for the Rams’ organization in the last few months. The Rams, a National Football League (NFL) franchise, are moving back to Los Angeles after a decade in St. Louis. As if changing cities isn’t enough, the Rams were also involved in a historic draft trade with the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee sent the top overall selection along with their fourth and sixth round picks in this year’s draft in exchange for the Ram’s first round pick (No. 15), two second round picks, and third round pick this year in addition to the Ram’s first and third round picks in 2017. The 2016 NFL Draft, which will be held in Chicago, will begin with the Round 1 selections on Thursday, April 28th.

The Rams will most likely try to land a franchise quarterback with the first overall selection. It appears Jared Goff of California or Carson Wentz of North Dakota State, both highly rated quarterback prospects, will be headed to Los Angeles. The Rams boast a fierce defense, looking to rebound from injuries in 2015, and have playmakers on offense in star running back Todd Gurley and speedster Tavon Austin. Selecting the right quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft could set the Rams up for long term success in their move back to Los Angeles. Thanks to the NFL’s new deal with Twitter, the Rams’ December 15th matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, which could have serious playoff implications, will be available to be streamed live on the popular social media website.

Moving a team back to the United State’s second largest city should be a good thing for the NFL, as they will be able to display their product in a much larger market than St. Louis had to offer.
