Oklahoma Sooner’s Hotshot Buddy Hield

Charlie Mitelhaus / Contributor

If you haven’t heard of Buddy Hield by now, you may have been living under a rock for the past year. Buddy Hield and the Oklahoma Sooner men’s basketball team have been sizzling this entire season. However, no game showcased their dominance better than this past weekend’s elite eight matchup with number one seed, Oregon. In a game that was outright dominated by the Sooners, one could have thought that it was just a preseason scrimmage if seen out of context, rather than the first versus second seed elite eight matchup.

As Hield continues to increase his draft stock, leading the Sooners deeper and deeper into the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) March Madness Tournament, the way that he is doing it is nothing short of spectacular. In the game against Oregon for example, Hield put up 37 points, the most points scored by any player this tournament, topping his previous point total of 36 in the round 32 match up with Virginia Commonwealth University. All of this was only was made better by having none other than the great Kobe Bryant in the stands watching a Bryant-esque performance being put on display right before his eyes.

Oklahoma faces Villanova in the Final Four, this Saturday, April 2. In a match up of two seeds currently playing with avalanche like momentum, both having knocked off top seeds in their previous elite eight games (Oklahoma beating Oregon and Villanova winning over Kansas). This year’s March madness has without a doubt been one for the ages, and it isn’t even done yet.
