Final Four Finale

Final Four Finale

Charlie Mitelhaus / Contributor

Sixty-eight began, and now only two remain. March Madness has just about run its course and finally we are down to the two last teams to have survived the spring gauntlet that is March Madness. Monday night, April 4th 2016, the second seeded Villanova Wildcats will take the court against the first seeded North Carolina Tar Heels. Both teams have earned their respective spots in the college basketball finale as both have battled through a season for the ages. However, after Monday night, only one team will be able to cut down the nets in Houston.

Both of these programs are no strangers to success, as Villanova has won a national title and seen other championship games, North Carolina has won five, tied with Indiana and Duke with wins for the third in most titles of all time, trailing Kentucky with eight, and UCLA with 11. In what will without question be an exciting matchup, both teams are more similar than some may know. Aside from geographical location on the East Coast, the two teams have paralleling similarities on their rosters as well as with their playing styles. Both UNC and Nova feature strong backcourts lead by incredible playmakers in Marcus Paige and Joel Berry for UNC, and Jalen Brunson and Ryan Arcidiacono for Villanova. The guards for both of these teams love to push the pace and play at a high tempo. With deep rosters, both teams can play up to eight or nine different players and have success on the court as well as success on from the bench with coaches in Roy Williams and Jay Wright.

With a slow Final Four matchup, Josh Hart tallied 23 points against the Oklahoma Sooners on the wing for Villanova, and UNC star forward, Brice Johnson, has been nothing short of stellar himself, recording 16 points and nine rebounds against Syracuse in their Final Four matchup this past Saturday. All seem to think that this title game will have much more intrigue than that of the Final Four games as both Tar Heels and Wildcats thrashed the opposition with little to no resistance. This final game however should be a nail biter throughout, both teams surely providing for an excellent finishing touch on the 2015-2016 NCAA men’s basketball season.
