Dancing With The Stars Gives Athletes Chance To Grow Their Brand

Stanley Wiles / Contributor

Dancing With The Stars unveiled the celebrity selections for its 22nd season on Tuesday, once again featuring an eclectic mix of athletes, actors and entertainers. It’s been a proven method for the hit show, which continues to draw more than 10 million viewers to ABC on a regular basis.

The celebrity-professional dancer pairings were announced on Good Morning America, with it quickly becoming a huge talking point on social media. But it’s also proven to be an effective method for athletes and entertainers alike to build their brand on all digital platforms, which is something the newest cast will certainly try to do.

A host of big NFL names include star receiver Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers, former quarterback Doug Flutie and Denver Broncos linebacker and Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller. It’s a big move for current players Brown and Miller, who both came off spectacular seasons and now have the chance to become crossover stars to an entirely different audience and demographic. That is the athletes’ marketing team working hard to expand their client’s reach, something that Miller has already taken advantage of following his dominant performance in the Super Bowl win over Carolina. He has become a sports marketing dream, making appearances on late-night shows, commercials and much more. The "Dancing With The Stars opportunity is yet another chance for Miller to become an even bigger star.

Other noteworthy competitors include Donald Trump’s ex-wife, Marla Maples, Geraldo Rivera, actress Jodie Sweetin (Full House and the new hit Fuller House on Netflix) and UFC standout Paige VanZant.

VanZant, who has done deals and worked with Activ8Media previously, quickly came onto the scene in the UFC, becoming one of the company’s stars in a short time. Her look, charm and personality has made her a fan favorite and appearing on a show like "Dancing With The Stars" should only create even more starpower for the 21-year-old talent.
