Batman v Superman: A Blockbuster Brawl

Batman v Superman: A Blockbuster Brawl

Sianna Simon / Contributor

Today is the day, March 25, 2016, that Warner Brothers is expected to release what could prove to be its biggest blockbuster to date, if not one of the biggest blockbusters in history, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This epic battle could result with epic results in terms of Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment making their way back to the top of the box-office list.

With Marvel’s success in the superhero movie franchise, both of their Avengers films making the top ten box-office list worldwide, all of their spinoffs, and not to mention, their new Netflix series, superhero success for DC is foreseeable. Tonight, fans across the world will likely get to see the beginning of DC’s expanding superhero universe. DC has eleven movies lined up for release by 2020, so Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will provide the momentum for their campaign.

Batman and Superman are household names around the world, so including both of them in one movie is an incredible marketing plot on Warner Brothers’ part. As well, they planned the release of the trailers to the movie strategically to get the best social media exposure, a service we offer here, at Activ8Media. Portraying LexCorp (the main antagonist’s, Lex Luther, corporation in the film) as a real entity by creating a Twitter account for the fictional corporation, gave fans and opportunity to interact amongst the franchise, making for a viral media marketing strategy. The faux company even provided free Wi-Fi at Comic-Con along with a magazine interview with Fortune!

As for the movie itself, it will be a refreshing getaway from the Marvel monopoly over superhero movies as of late. It will be nice to see the iconic Gotham City and Metropolis, granted they will most likely be destroyed by the end of the movie after brawls between the heroes. With confirmed appearances by DC characters such as Wonder Woman and Doomsday, some speculate we may be gifted with a Robin v Joker sub-plot - that would certainly help setup DC’s upcoming movie, Suicide Squad, coming out later this summer. It seems like Warner Brothers’ DC Entertainment is effectively activating their brand and products on a national level, exactly what we encourage and provide our clients with here at Activ8Media.
