Arnold Sports Festival Returns to Columbus

Richard Allen / Contributor

The fitness industry descends on Columbus, Ohio, this weekend for the Arnold Sports Festival, which is widely regarded as the largest multi-sport fitness weekend in the world.

The four-day event that starts today and runs through Sunday will attract nearly 200,000 fans who will get a taste of everything from the supplements being offered at the Arnold Expo to the bodybuilding and weightlifting competitions to the other 50-plus sports being contested throughout the weekend.

Arnold Schwarzenegger first brought the Arnold Sports Festival to Columbus in 1989 and it has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, with fans traveling from all over the world to take part in the excitement. There’s a chance to meet Arnold, as well as various other movie stars, WWE Entertainers, UFC fighters and more, or watch one of the 14 Olympic Sports taking place.

The Arnold Expo, which features booths and displays from the top supplement companies in the sports nutrition industry, has always been a huge draw as fans crowd the Columbus Convention Center. The Arnold Classic bodybuilding competition features the return of the popular Kai Greene, who boasts nearly four million Facebook fans and more than one million Instagram followers. Greene is competing for the first time since 2010 at the event and has become one of the sport’s most popular draws on social media.

Activ8Media will also be involved during the weekend, as Co-Founder Cory Gregory will be making an appearance just outside the Expo at nearby BBR Columbus Restaurant on Saturday. Gregory will be holding a meet-and-greet and book signing from 4-9 PM, with his new “Mindset Manual” available for purchase.

The weekend has been a staple in shaping Gregory’s influential career in the fitness industry, dating back to when he first attended the event more than 10 years ago. Gregory also expects a big crowd for Friday and Saturday’s “Beats and Barbells” at his Old School Gym. The sold-out event will have a live DJ during what is an expected to be an electric workout atmosphere.
